On Saturday, May 30, 2020 at approximately 1:47 a.m., police responded to a 911 call of a motor vehicle collision on the Cross Bronx Expressway at the Jerome Avenue exit (2A), within the confines of the 44th precinct.

Upon arrival, officers observed a 30-year-old male vehicle operator, unconscious and unresponsive, with trauma about the body. EMS responded to the location and transported the aided male to BronxCare Health System, where he was pronounced deceased.

A 35-year-old male passenger was removed to Saint Barnabas Hospital with complaint of bodily pain, via EMS, in stable condition, and a 21-year-old female passenger refused medical attention at the scene.

Further investigation by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad determined the 30-year-old male, operating a blue 2014 BMW M5 sedan, was traveling north bound on the Cross Island Expressway and, while attempting to exit the roadway at Jerome Avenue (exit 2A), he failed to properly navigate the roadway, struck the median at the exit area before striking a pillar and then coming to a rest.

There were no other affected vehicles as a result of this collision. The incident remains under investigation.

The identity of the deceased is pending proper family notification.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the CrimeStoppers website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM, or on Twitter @ NYPDTips.
