Early Sunday morning, police responded to a 911 call of a male shot in front of 3089 Decatur Avenue, just south of East 204th Street in Norwood. Upon arrival, officers found 46-year-old Gary Rodriguez with a gunshot wound to the torso.
Emergency Service workers took Rodriguez to Montefiore Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. There have been no arrests made and police say the investigation is ongoing.
Police say Rodriguez lived three blocks north of East 204th Street, also on Decatur Ave. That’s just a block away from where the precinct’s last murder, at 3347 Decatur Ave., occurred in mid-October. Inspector Joseph Dowling, the commanding officer of the 52nd Precinct, said the earlier murder was narcotics related.
Sunday’s fatal shooting marked the fourth murder in the 52nd Precinct this year.
