Council Member Fernando Cabrera, Victor Rivera, CEO of Bronx Parent Housing Network, and community residents distributed free food and masks on Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at Jerome Avenue and W. Kingsbridge Road.
Fresh and hot food (rice and chicken) was given out to everybody in line.
“The most recent numbers show the Bronx still has the highest COVID-19 infection rate per capita among the five boroughs,” Cabrera wrote in a press release dated Monday, May 18.
“At this time when people are struggling to stay healthy, everyone must practice social distancing and everyone must have food to eat. I’m happy to be able to provide free face masks and free meals and support the efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19, ” Cabrera added.
Members of Bronx Parent Housing Network helped unload boxes of water from a van ahead of the food giveaway event, before serving up hot and cold meals, and handing out gloves and masks to local residents.
Victor Rivera, CEO of Bronx Parent Housing Network was present at the event handing out gloves and masks. Some residents lowered their heads while standing in line and did not wish to be photographed.
Local resident, Socrates S. Solano helped to hand out free meals at the food and mask giveaway. People waited patiently in line along the block, as NYPD officers ensured people adhered to social distancing measures.
