Claremont: Wakefield Man Dies following Fatal Shooting

A 28-year-old man from Wakefield has died following a fatal shooting in the Claremont section of The Bronx.

 

Police said that on Sunday evening, Nov. 19, 2023, at around 7 p.m., police responded to a 911 call regarding a person who was shot at the intersection of Morris Avenue and East 174th Street.

 

“Upon arrival, officers observed a 28-year-old male victim with multiple gunshot wounds throughout the body,” a police spokesperson said. “EMS responded to the location and transported the male to St. Barnabas Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The investigation remains ongoing.”

On Monday, Nov. 20, police said the deceased was identified as Courtney Howell, male, of Saint Ouen Street in the Wakefield section of The Bronx.

 

As of Nov. 12, year-to-date murders are down by 12.8% citywide, compared to last year. As of the same date, year-to-date murders in The Bronx are also down but only by 0.9% compared to last year.

 

In the 46th Precinct, where the fatal shooting occurred, and which covers some or all of the Bronx neighborhoods of Claremont, Fordham, University Heights, Morris Heights and Mt. Hope, murders are also down by 8.3 percent.
