On Saturday, Oct. 3, 2020 at 00:38 a.m., an off-duty New York City male employee was arrested and charged within the confines of the 44th precinct, which covers the neighborhoods of Grand Concourse, Bronx Terminal Market, and Yankee Stadium.

Diego Carmona-Suero, 33, an employee at the New York City Department of Sanitation was charged with assault.

An arrest is not proof that a person is guilty of a crime.

Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students. As you navigate this website, please let us know if you discover any glitches or if you have any suggestions. We’d love to hear from you. We received the following response from the Gopal campaign:

“Thank you so much for reaching out about the comment.
This past year, I was the National Distributed Organizer for the Bernie 2020 Presidential Campaign, where I created and executed a national canvassing program to mobilize thousands to vote and participate politically. My program was present in various states, including New York. On the day of my launch various staff members of the campaign; including Claire Sandberg, Winnie Wong, Senator Nina Turner, and Jack Califano, publicly supported my announcement to run. I was born and grew up in The Bronx. I lived in the Soundview area until I was 13 when my family moved to our current home in the Belmont neighborhood on Crotona Ave, in city council District 15.

I have been ingrained in the success and future of The Bronx since I was a young adult. I’m eager to continue meeting all of my community members and together we’ll build a better Bronx for all of us.”
