CB7 Highlights Year of Activities With Newsletter

Community Board 7 Newsletter.1-page-001

By NORWOOD NEWS

Normally this format is reserved for when the latest edition of the Norwood News publishes its latest edition, but we veered from the script just a bit to present the latest newsletter by Community Board 7. The Board, under the chairmanship of newly re-elected chair Adaline Walker-Santiago, released an eight-page publication of its own showcasing the work it’s taken on since last September.

The Board, covering Norwood, Bedford Park, Kingsbridge, Fordham and University Heights, has now entered a summer hiatus to catch its breath, but not before releasing its newsletter. In it, you’ll find quick blurbs of the Board’s twelve committees, ranging from Land Use/Housing to Long Term Planning. Among the many things the Board has checked off this year include:

  • Establishing a Veterans Committee
  • A push to co-name a street after Margaret J. Mack
  • Ensuring The Stagg Group adheres to building mixed housing on Webster Avenue
  • Taking developers of the Kingsbridge National Ice Center to task
  • Highlighting the growing trend of synthetic marijuana use

You’ll also find some fun events CB7 took part, including the Bronx Week Parade in mid-May.

Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students. As you navigate this website, please let us know if you discover any glitches or if you have any suggestions. We’d love to hear from you.
