Fordham Manor: Woman Hospitalized following Hit & Run Incident

The NYPD said a woman was brought to an area hospital after being hit by a vehicle in a hit and run incident which occurred on the border of the Fordham Manor and Fordham Heights neighborhoods. Police responded to a 911 call at around 1.45 p.m. on Friday, March 18, following a report that a woman had been knocked down by a vehicle at East 188th Street and East Fordham Road. The New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) has issued a winter operations advisory for Saturday, March 12, beginning at 1 a.m. This type of advisory is the department’s “lower level” winter weather message, as opposed to the “higher level” snow alert. Officials said a wintry mix of rain and snow is expected throughout the day Saturday, and depending on exact timing and temperature, New York City may receive up to one inch on paved surfaces, and up to three inches on unpaved surfaces. Police confirm a man and woman were killed, and two other passengers were injured following a 3-vehicle collision that took place on the Cross Bronx Expressway on Friday, and shut down the busy roadway for nearly five hours. Following a winter hiatus, and the successful completion of earlier stages of construction and roadway work which began in September 2020, the MTA Bridges and Tunnels division announced that it is resuming roadway work, and advancing to the next stage of deck replacement at Throggs Neck Bridge. New York City Emergency Management (EMS) issued a travel advisory on Thursday, Feb. 24, which is in effect through Friday, Feb. 25. The National Weather Service had issued a winter weather advisory for New York City the same day which is also in effect until 1 p.m. on Friday.
