Pothole Hazard in the Middle of Jerome Avenue Finally Fixed

A large pothole that had been doubling as a trash receptacle in the middle of a Jerome Park intersection has finally been fixed, after an official from the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) explained the cause of the delay was a broken “catch basin” that needed to be repaired. A catch basin is located at the point where a street gutter discharges into a sewer and is designed to catch and retain matter that would not pass readily through the sewer. A 29-year-old man has died following a scooter collision in the Belmont section of The Bronx. On Thursday, March 24, at approximately 10.32 p.m., police responded to a 911 call regarding an unconscious man who was lying on the roadway at Southern Boulevard near Crotona Avenue, in the Belmont section of the Bronx. The NYPD said a woman was brought to an area hospital after being hit by a vehicle in a hit and run incident which occurred on the border of the Fordham Manor and Fordham Heights neighborhoods. The New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) has issued a winter operations advisory for Saturday, March 12, beginning at 1 a.m. This type of advisory is the department’s “lower level” winter weather message, as opposed to the “higher level” snow alert. Officials said a wintry mix of rain and snow is expected throughout the day Saturday, and depending on exact timing and temperature, New York City may receive up to one inch on paved surfaces, and up to three inches on unpaved surfaces.
