DOT Launches Initiative to Reduce Package Theft & Negative Environmental Impact of Truck Deliveries

New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez announced on June 30 that the agency will launch LockerNYC, a pilot program this summer to cut down on package theft and reduce delivery truck trips. The LockerNYC pilot program, which will run for one year, will allow New Yorkers to conveniently receive and send packages using secure lockers on public sidewalks, DOT officials said.   The pilot will include 15 locations and offer customers free 24/7 access, according to DOT officials. New York City Mayor Eric Adams released a statement on Saturday, July 1, following the formal departure, as reported, of former Commissioner Keechant Sewell on June 30, in which the mayor announced that First Deputy Commissioner Edward “Eddie” A. Cops Join Puzzle Life & Students & Teachers from P.S. 168 to Walk for Autism Acceptance

A group of around 200 people, including many kids, joined together for a walk in Norwood to promote autism acceptance, unity, and inclusion on Friday, June 16. Community Awards Presented at Last BMCA Meeting before Summer Amid Noise & Package Theft Concerns

Joy Syeeda Lafontaine and Police Officer Stephen Echevarria were each presented with awards for their service to the community during the final meeting, before the summer break, of Bedford Mosholu Community Association (BMCA) on June 7, the same day the air quality in New York City was badly affected by Canadian wildfires.   Lafontaine, secretary of BMCA, was awarded the Mary Vallati Memorial Award in recognition of her exceptional volunteer service over the year, while Echevarria, community affairs officer at the 52nd Precinct, was awarded the Jack Kelly Memorial Award in recognition of his outstanding service to the community.

Kingsbridge: Tandem Trailer Stuck under Elevated Subway for Hours

  A tandem tractor-trailer recently got trapped under the elevated subway in Kingsbridge for several hours, as police and fire units blocked off traffic in the area and two dozen MTA employees attempted to free the truck with minimal damage to the subway line.   According to an unnamed MTA official, the incident took place at 10:42 a.m. on Thursday, June 22, at the intersection of Broadway and West 231st Street. Norwood: Two Injured in Motorcycle/Car Collision

A 23-year-old motorcycle driver remains in serious condition and his 23-year-old female passenger was in stable condition after an early morning collision at Jerome Avenue and Bainbridge Avenue in Norwood.   Police say the crash took place at 7:17 a.m. on Monday, June 26, after a 31-year-old man driving a 2003 Toyota attempted to make a U-turn and collided with the motorcycle which was traveling southbound at the time. NYC Emergency Management Advises New Yorkers to Prepare for Severe Thunderstorm on June 26

New York City Emergency Management Department (EMS) issued a travel advisory for Monday afternoon, June 26, through Tuesday, June 27. EMS officials said according to the National Weather Service, New York City may experience scattered showers with the potential for severe thunderstorms starting late afternoon through the evening.   They said the severe thunderstorms may affect the evening’s commute, with rain expected to continue into Tuesday morning.
