Lehman College is partnering with the national mentoring organization iMentor to launch a new program that will provide 260 freshmen and transfer students, who are already enrolled in one of the organization’s high school programs, with one-on-one mentoring and support to help them excel academically and graduate college in four years.   The Alice Griffin Scholars Program is named in honor of Alice V. NYPL To Hold “Welcome Week” Event & School Supplies Giveaway at Public Libraries from Oct. 18 to Oct. 23

The New York Public Library will be hosting a special Welcome Week at all branches in the Bronx from Monday, Oct. 18, to Saturday, Oct. 23, along with free school supplies for kids.   Branches will offer free programs and activities throughout the week to encourage visits, and give visitors a taste of all that libraries have to offer. UPDATE Norwood: 14-Year-Old Student Slashed in Williamsbridge Oval Park

Police from the 52nd precinct are investigating the slashing of a 14-year-old boy in Williamsbridge Oval Park in Norwood which took place over the weekend.   The NYPD confirmed that on Saturday, Oct. 9, at 4.40 p.m., a 14-year-old boy was playing basketball [in the specified park, located at 3224 Reservoir Oval E.] when a male assailant approached him and slashed him on the cheek. Preston High School Hosts Alumnae Reunion After 16 Months

“Teddy Cars” Helps Restore Music & Drama Program at St. Barnabas School

A local car dealership stepped up and made a $2,000 donation to support the film, drama, and music programs at St. Barnabas High School, as 200 students from Grade 9 through 12, returned to class after 18 months of virtual learning.   On Wednesday, Aug. 18, Julio Batista, general manager and partner at Teddy Cars, located on Boston Road, presented the check to the school.
