Local kids from Olinville, Gun Hill Houses and beyond faced off in the third, free, monthly “Mind Your Beat” dance battle at Mind-Builders Creative Arts Center on Saturday, March 4. During the March Traffic and Transportation committee meeting of Bronx Community Board 7 (CB7), NYC Department of Transportation (DOT) presented its final plan on proposed bus and pedestrian improvements to address congestion along Gun Hill Road before the plan’s implementation in the coming months. Nearly 200 young students and parents rallied outside of St. Brendan School in Norwood to protest plans by the Archdiocese of New York to close 12 Catholic schools across the City, including six in The Bronx, as well as the merger of four additional Catholic schools in The Bronx into two, at the end of the 2022-23 academic year. Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark announced on March 9 that a Manhattan man has been charged with kidnapping, murder and other charges for shooting two people in a car, setting it on fire, and incinerating them on Shore Road in Pelham Split Rock Course in Pelham Bay Park in the East Bronx in May 2022, as reported. A free 3v3 basketball tournament: Buckets for the Bronx: 3v3 Community Classic for Bronx teens was held at the Apex Center at Lehman College on Saturday, Feb. 25. The event was organized by local community members, Jessica Altagracia Woolford, founder of Kingsbridge Unidos, and Haramritjot Singh, founder of Cash Cow NYC. The tournament was open to local high school students aged 14-18 of all genders. It was free to enter and winners earned prizes, including three tickets to a Knicks game at Madison Square Garden, various cash prizes, two dozen brand-new Spalding basketballs, and exclusive Cash Cow NYC merchandise.

Applications for the fourth annual Oyate Group Brandon Hendricks Scholarship have officially opened, with an award of $20,000 going to each of two applicants for the first time in the scholarship’s history, organizers announced on March 2. Previously, as reported, the organization offered $5,000 in total in scholarship funds.
