Montefiore Einstein Give Out Free New Bikes to P.S. 199 Students during National Bike Safety Month

Twenty-eight students from P.S. 199, The Shakespeare School, were the lucky recipients of new bikes last week thanks to the Montefiore School Health Program and the Montefiore Einstein Center for Performance Improvement.   The bikes were presented to the students at their school, located at 1449 Shakespeare Avenue in the Mt. Eden section of The Bronx on Friday, May 19.   Montefiore officials said the Grade 1 to 5 students, who were entered into a raffle after demonstrating respect, readiness, and responsibility, also learned about bike safety during the giveaway event.   As reported, May marks National Bike Safety Month

UPDATE Bedford Park: Motor Vehicle Accident Reportedly Results in One Injured Scooter Driver

The driver of a scooter was reportedly injured and treated at a local hospital following a motor vehicle accident on Jerome Avenue in Bedford Park on Monday in what appears to be the second collision to occur along a two-block section of the avenue, and within 10 days of a previous collision involving a bus and a car.   Bystander, Levan Vashakidze, told Norwood News by phone that the accident occurred at around 1.40 p.m. on Monday, May 22. Allerton: Man Sought following Assault on MTA Employee aboard BX12 Bus

The NYPD is asking for the public’s assistance identifying the person seen in the attached photo who is sought in connection with an assault that occurred in Allerton.   Police said that on Monday, May 8, at around 3.35 p.m. a person got into a dispute with a 42-year-old, on-duty MTA employee, on a BX12 bus in the vicinity of Williamsbridge Road and Pelham Parkway. UPDATE Mt. Hope: Child Dies of Cardiac Arrest After Apparent Fall from Multistory Building

  Police said that a 9-year-old boy died on Sunday in the Mt. Hope section of the Bronx. They said he appears to have fallen out of a window, though the investigation is ongoing. The FDNY said the child died from a cardiac arrest.   A police spokesperson said the incident occurred at around 4.11 p.m. on Sunday, May 21. “Police responded to a 911 call of an aided child outside 240 Mt. Fordham Heights: Residential Fire Causes No Injuries

No injuries were reported following a fire in Fordham Heights on Friday, May 19, the FDNY said.   A spokesperson for the fire department said they received a call at 10.48 p.m. on Friday for reports of smoke/a fire at 2357 Walton Avenue. The spokesperson said the fire broke out on the first floor of 5-story, multiple dwelling and was brought under control at 11:19 p.m. There were no injuries according to the FDNY. Asked if the cause of the blaze was established, the FDNY spokesperson said the cause was not yet known.      

First Annual Bronx Aging Advocacy Day Held

  Amid proposed budget cuts, the first annual Bronx Aging Advocacy Day was held on May 1 on the steps of Bronx Borough Hall as elected officials, advocates, community organizations and seniors gathered to help fight for the protection of equitable services for the elderly population.   Mayor Eric Adams’ proposed City budget for fiscal year 2024 was set to see reduced city funding for many programs that provide essential services to the elderly, including cuts to older adult centers and home-delivered meals. UPDATE Baychester: 10 Hospitalized following Motor Vehicle Collision

Officials from The Fire Department of New York said 10 people were transported to hospital following a motor vehicle collision on Monday afternoon in Baychester, south of Co-op City, and one further person was also injured but not hospitalized.   The incident was reported at 3.18 p.m. at Einstein Loop North and Hutchinson River Parkway East on Monday, May 15, and involved four separate vehicles.   An NYPD spokeswoman said an 80-year-old man was driving a jeep traveling northbound on Hutchinson River Parkway when he collided at the intersection with a yellow school bus, driven by a 72-year-old woman.
