UPDATE ELECTIONS 2023: Unofficial Results of Bronx Primary Races on Election Night & Ranked Choice

After the polls closed on Tuesday, June 27, NYC Board of Elections released the initial, unofficial results of the primary elections which took place that day, based on a percentage of returned poll site scanners.   The initial results cover both early votes and election day votes. Absentee and overseas ballots still have to be counted, as do the remaining scanners. Below is a summary of the unofficial results for The Bronx. Elections 2023: Crime Rate Comparisons with Other Boroughs re the Bronx DA Democratic Primary Election

One of the points debated in the lead-up to the Democratic primary election for the position of Bronx district attorney, taking place on June 27 between incumbent Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark and defense attorney Tess Cohen, was the district attorney’s handling of cases. Cohen alleges Clark could manage her office more efficiently.   Cohen also said the DA gets to set priorities and where resources are spent, saying it isn’t as though every City crime gets prosecuted. She said this was particularly the case with powerful people who “tend to hurt others, like landlords, employers.” She said “no one really pays attention”

Fordham Manor: Police Appeal for Help Locating Missing 15-Year-Old Girl

The NYPD is asking for the public’s help locating a 15-year-old girl reporting missing from Fordham Manor. Police said that Khaidley Rodriguez of 2687 Heath Avenue was last seen on June 17, at around 11 p.m., leaving her home. They said she is described as female, is around 5 feet, 5 inches in height, is Black Hispanic, weighs around 120 pounds, and has brown eyes and long brown hair. They said she was last seen wearing a black sweater, black shorts and black/white sneakers. Anyone with information regarding this missing person is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline

Norwood: Two Injured in Motorcycle/Car Collision

A 23-year-old motorcycle driver remains in serious condition and his 23-year-old female passenger was in stable condition after an early morning collision at Jerome Avenue and Bainbridge Avenue in Norwood.   Police say the crash took place at 7:17 a.m. on Monday, June 26, after a 31-year-old man driving a 2003 Toyota attempted to make a U-turn and collided with the motorcycle which was traveling southbound at the time. UPDATE University Heights: 12-Year-Old Boy Reported Missing Safely Located

The NYPD said a 12-year-old boy reported missing from University Heights has been safely located.   Prior to being located, police had said that Ruben Rodriguez, 12, had last been seen on Friday, June 23, at around 7 a.m., leaving his home. They said he was described as male, around 4 feet, 9 inches tall, weighed around 125 pounds, has brown eyes and black hair. Prior to being located, they said he had last been seen wearing black pants and a white shirt.    

New Bronx Research Shows Poor Air Quality Leads to Longer Hospital Stays for Children with Asthma

  Children with asthma spend more time in the hospital when there is a greater amount of “particulate matter” (PM 2.5) i.e. tiny pieces of solids or liquids, and Ozone (O₃), a colorless gas, in the air, according to a new study by researchers at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM) in Norwood. Bronx Couple Charged with Imprisoning & Endangering Two Girls Aged 3 and 4 Years Old

  Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. NYC Emergency Management Advises New Yorkers to Prepare for Severe Thunderstorm on June 26

New York City Emergency Management Department (EMS) issued a travel advisory for Monday afternoon, June 26, through Tuesday, June 27. EMS officials said according to the National Weather Service, New York City may experience scattered showers with the potential for severe thunderstorms starting late afternoon through the evening.   They said the severe thunderstorms may affect the evening’s commute, with rain expected to continue into Tuesday morning.
