Despite the few accomplishments that we had, 2022 was filled with disappointments, empty promises, and uncertainty. I hope that in 2023 we can put an end to the reckless motorcycle and motorized bike riding on the sidewalk and the senseless loud noise coming from passenger cars and SUVs. Bedford Park: Phase II Construction Begins at Bedford Greene

  Construction of Bedford Green House II, located at 2880 Jerome Avenue in Bedford Park, the second of a two-phase, supportive housing development, began on Friday, Dec. 9. The first building, constructed under Phase I of the development and located on the adjacent lot at 2865 Creston Avenue, was completed last winter and residents started moving in in January 2022. Off-Duty NYC Department of Homeless Services Employee Arrested for Menacing

An off-duty City employee was arrested in The Bronx on Monday, police said.   According to the NYPD, Tonya Simmons, 47, an off-duty employee with NYC Department of Homeless Services was arrested on Monday, Jan.  9, at 9.24 p.m. within the boundaries of the 48th Precinct, which covers the neighborhoods of Belmont, East Tremont, and West Farms, while Fordham University’s Bronx campus is nestled in the precinct’s northern corner.   Simmons was charged with menacing and criminal possession of a weapon. A person arrested and charged with a crime is deemed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.

UPDATE Senior Woman Located in the Castle Hill Area Reunited with Family

  A senior female resident located in the Castle Hill area on Monday morning has been reunited with her family, police said.   The NYPD had been asking for the public’s help in locating the woman’s family when she was located in the Castle Hill area on Monday, Jan. 9, at 11.05 a.m. A police spokesperson had said at the time the unidentified woman was discovered in the vicinity of Castle Hill Avenue and the Cross Bronx Expressway. P.J. Salvage Recalls Children’s Pajamas Due to Burn Hazard

  The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced on Jan. 5, that P.J. Salvage has recalled about 2,650 units of a specific set of children’s pajamas which have failed to meet the federal, flammability standards for children’s sleepwear, posing a risk of burn injuries to children. A refund is being offered for the returns.   The recalled children’s pajama sets are 65 percent polyester and 35 percent rayon and comprise a two-piece, long-sleeve shirt and pants set. Marble Hill: Bike Giveaway on Jan. 6 at 4 p.m. to Celebrate Three Kings Day

Kicking off at 4 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 6, local community members will host a Three Kings Day children’s bike giveaway and community celebration at 5237 Broadway, (between 225th Street and 228th Street) in the Marble Hill section of The Bronx. According to the organizers, volunteer bike mechanics spent 555 hours over the past two months repairing and restoring dozens of bikes previously rescued from a former bike repair shop in Spanish Harlem in October.
