New York City Beaches Reopen for Summer 2023

NYC Parks Commissioner Sue Donoghue announced earlier this week that the City’s eight public beaches are open for swimming effective Saturday, May 27, and will remain open through Sunday, Sept. 10. Lifeguards will be on duty daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and swimming is unsafe and strictly prohibited at all other times.   “Our city’s waterfront is a vital part of summer for New Yorkers,” said Donoghue. “It’s a place to cool off, kick back, and relax, and we’re committed to making sure that all of our beaches are clean, safe, attractive destinations. Neighbors Lost to COVID Remembered at Annual Ceremony

A now annual COVID memorial ceremony was once again held by local northwest Bronx residents, including Friends of Jerome Park, at Fort Washington Walk at the corner of Reservoir Avenue and University Avenue in Jerome Park on Saturday, May 13, to commemorate those lost to COVID-19 over the course of the recent pandemic.   On Oct. 23, 2021, a tree-planting ceremony took place at the same location to memorialize all victims of the pandemic. BX BP and BX Economic Development Corp. Announce $1 Million Sustainability Challenge to BX Students

Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson and the Bronx Economic Development Corporation (BXEDC) announced the launch of the first-of-its-kind environmental sustainability challenge on Monday, May 8.   BXEDC representatives said the Bronx Green Action Challenge will award up to $1 million to a Bronx-based college or university for the development and implementation of a project or set of projects that improve campus sustainability, and reduce that institution’s environmental footprint. Diverse Group of Neighbors Help Reunite Husky with Family
