Assemblywoman Nathalia Fernandez has issued a statement regarding residents’ concerns in the Allerton community about the possibility of a substance abuse treatment center being opened in the neighborhood.   Department of Buildings work permit signs at 2500 Williamsbridge Road had prompted concern among the community that a treatment center was going ahead. Blood Drives Dropped by Two-Thirds Due to Pandemic

New York Blood Center is calling on the community to make appointments to visit donor centers as COVID-19 has fundamentally changed the process of donating blood. Before COVID-19, mobile blood drives hosted by high schools, colleges, businesses and other organizations made up about 75 percent of the region’s incoming blood supply, but the number of blood drives has dropped by two-thirds this year due to the pandemic.   The upcoming school year presents new and unprecedented challenges. The New York Latino Film Festival (NYLFF) Hosts New York City’s First Latino Drive-In Movie Night

  On Monday, Sept. 17, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. attended the The New York International Latino Film Festival (NYLFF) which, this year, hosted New York City’s first Latino drive-in experience in the Bronx.   The film festival, which ran from Sept. 14 to 20 featured drive-in / in-person movie experiences and was held across the street from the Bronx Terminal Market. Mayor: 9,000 Managerial & Non-Union Employees To Be Furloughed

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced on Sept. 23, that the City will furlough all managerial and non-union represented City employees, totaling 9,000 people. This announcement expands on an announcement made last week by the City of a week of furloughs of mayoral office employees which will take place between October and March. Fordham Manor: Teachers’ Rally Highlights Dissatisfaction with Health, Safety & Preparedness at Schools

  A group of teachers held a rally on Sept. 18, in front of the Bronx office of the Department of Education (DOE) at 1 Fordham Plaza in the Fordham Manor section of the Bronx, to publicize their concerns about the reopening of schools. Bedford Park: “Food For All” Event Held

  A “Food For All” event was held on Jerome Avenue on Sunday, Sept. 20, in the Bedford Park neighborhood of the Bronx. The event was organized by Aleksander Nilaj of The Albanian American Open Hand Association Inc. (AAOHA), Bake Back America, News Reporter and Photographer Miriam Quinoñes, and Melisa Subin of Subin Associates, LLP.   Around 80 boxes of dried and fresh food were given out to about 75 local residents.
