District 14 City Council Member Pierina Sanchez hosted a community block party on Morris Avenue between 181st Street and Burnside Avenue in Fordham Heights on Saturday, July 30, 2022, from 12 noon to 4 p.m., with free food, music and access to various resources. As the event took place during the summer heatwave, some kids were seen cooling off with water sprayed from a nearby fire hydrant. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a heat advisory which will be in effect from 3:23 a.m. until Aug. 9 at 8 p.m. NWS officials said heat index values indicate that temperatures in the lower 100s are possible in The Bronx and in all of New York City, with high humidity forecast which may cause heat related illnesses to occur. The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a heat advisory earlier this week which was originally due to be in effect until Wednesday, July 20, at 8 p.m., but NWS has since announced that the period of extreme heat will continue through Sunday, July 24 at 8 p.m. Temperatures of between 95 and 100 degrees were expected on Wednesday in New York City.
