Inquiring Photographer: How Safe Is Your Intersection?

by David Greene This week we asked readers what they thought were the most dangerous intersections in the Bedford Park and Norwood communities.   1) I’ve tried to cross Jerome Avenue and East Gun Hill Road a few times to go to the pharmacy and the stores around there and it’s pretty dangerous with drivers turning. People turn at high speeds or race to catch a light. –Marlon McLeod

Rangel, Espaillat and Walrond Square Off in First Debate

By David Cruz The two main candidates for the 13th Congressional District achieved moments of glory in the first debate against incumbent Congressman Charles Rangel, who also managed to hit the pair with several one-two punches. The kind of New York City rain an umbrella fails to protect you from no matter how hard it tries. No problem, I remember thinking, I’m from the Pacific Northwest where rain is a way of life. I got this.

Free After-School Journalism Program in the Bronx (Applications Due Friday!)

Above is a link to an interview with me, Bronx Youth Heard Director and Norwood News Editor Alex Kratz, and Lehman High School student Adonis Jimenez for a Bronx 2.0 segment that aired on Bronxnet in February. Everything I talk about in that segment remains true. Bronx Youth Heard is a fantastic program for students interested in journalism or who love to write or who want to have impact on their communities and think (like we do) that journalism is a way to make that happen.
