The Bronx Museum of the Arts Teen Council is organizing an exhibition of teen art and is inviting teenage artists to submit artworks that engage with the theme of community. Everyone has a different perspective of what community is; what community means for someone can be completely different from what another person considers community. The museum is hoping to share teens’ creative interpretations on this theme. Selected artworks will be shown at The Bronx Museum of the Arts from May to June 2023. Concourse Village Elementary School held a memorial ceremony for former student Angellyh Yambo on March 30 during which the school’s art room, a place she loved to hang out, was dedicated to her. The former student, who spent much of her youth in Kingsbridge Heights, was tragically killed in broad daylight as she walked home from school with friends in Mott Haven on April 8, 2022. Hundreds of Bronxites turned out for the 6th Annual Child Safety Fair hosted by the Office of Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark, held at the Baychester Community Center, located at 1220 East 229th Street in Edenwald on Saturday, April 15. Video footage of flames and smoke seen on the elevated subway platform of the Kingsbridge Road subway station raised alarm bells on Tuesday, April 18. A spokesperson for the MTA later explained to Norwood News that a smoke condition was reported at around 8.05 a.m. and that the 4 train service was suspended until 8:57 a.m. between Woodlawn and Burnside Avenue while FDNY investigated the incident. Local nonprofit Up Life foundation held an Easter celebration in the Williamsbridge Oval park in Norwood on Sunday, April 9, complete with a DJ, MC, balloons, games, goodie bags, dancing, and more for local families to enjoy. Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is surging among U.S. children, according to officials at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM) and Albert Einstein College of Medicine (together, Montefiore-Einstein). The number of young people under the age of 20 living with the disease has nearly doubled between 2001 and 2017, they said and yet, aside from increases in childhood obesity, the reasons for this disturbing increase are not clear.
