Three Kings Event Brings Joy to Bronx Kids

The Bronx Puerto Rican Day Parade Committee held its 2nd Annual Health & Resource Fair & Toy Giveaway to mark Three Kings Day (Jan. 6) on Saturday, Jan. 4. This year, the event was held at James Monroe Houses, located at 1780 Story Avenue in Soundview.

UPDATE Man with History of Violence & Mental Health Issues Charged with Fatal Stabbing of 14-Year-Old Boy

A 14-year-old boy who grew up in the Wakefield section of the Bronx and who later moved to Mott Haven, has died following a fatal stabbing in Mott Haven on his way to school on Friday, Jan. 10, police said. Earlier on Friday, police had appealed to the public for help identifying the person seen in he attached image and video who they said was sought for questioning in connection to the incident and who they said they believed may have also been responsible for a prior stabbing of a 38-year-old male victim which also took place in Mott Haven earlier in January.

Montefiore Einstein Names Inaugural Chief Pharmacy Officer

Ruth E. Cassidy B.S., PharmD, MBA, FACHE, FASHP was named the inaugural chief pharmacy officer at Montefiore Health System on Monday, Jan. 6, hospital officials said. Dr. Cassidy assumed her new position the same day.

NYC Health Department Announces Most Popular Names for Babies Born in 2023

New York City Department of Health & Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) announced on Dec. 27, 2024, that a total of 10,613 babies were born in The Bronx in 2023. This compared with 39,484 born in Manhattan the same year, 22,297 born in Brooklyn, 20,148 born in Queens, and 5,847 born on Staten Island.

UPDATE Gun Hill Section: Six People including Mother Used as Human Shield & Daughter Shot in White Plains Road Store

The NYPD has released photo and video of two unidentified gunmen sought for questioning in connection to the shooting of six people, including a 40-year-old mother who was used as a human shield, and her 12-year-old daughter, inside a White Plains Road convenience store in the Olinville section of The Bronx on Monday evening, Dec. 30.  They said the two  “opened fire in the middle of the street” and continued shooting inside the small “crowded convenience store” injuring all six people in the process.
