Collection Held for Domestic Violence Survivors ahead of Galentine’s Day Event
In advance of Galentine’s Day, a global holiday that celebrates women’s friendship and mutual empowerment, typically marked on Feb. 13, a collection of pre-loved or new items, including beauty products, accessories, jewelry, hair products, purses, shoes, clothes, and more was organized to support women living at a Bronx Domestic Violence (DV) shelter.
Coalition Calls to Eliminate 5-Year Statute of Limitations for Human Trafficking Survivors to Press Charges
Coinciding with Human Trafficking Awareness Month in January, Northwest Bronx Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz (A.D. 81), a Democrat, was among a coalition of elected officials, advocates, and survivors who joined Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, Jr., on Jan. 18, to call on the New York State legislature to support survivors by eliminating the five-year statute of limitations for sex trafficking and child sex trafficking.
UPDATE Primaries 2024: Unity Democratic Club Announces Endorsements & Votes on Healthcare Resolution
The Unity Democratic Club, which serves members of the Democratic Party throughout the northwest Bronx, announced on Friday, Jan. 26, its official endorsements for the upcoming 2024 elections. It also voted on a specific healthcare related resolution in support of the NYC Organization of Public Service Retirees.
A Look Back on Legislative Actions Taken on the 2nd Anniversary of the Twin Parks Fire
As Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson organized a reflective memorial ceremony on Tuesday, Jan. 9, to honor the 17 people, including 8 children, mostly of Gambian descent, who lost their lives in one of the deadliest fires in New York City’s history two years ago, we take a look back at the various legislative actions taken since then. The wreath-laying ceremony took place at Bronx Borough Hall on the second anniversary of the tragic Twin Parks fire which broke out in the Fordham Heights section of The Bronx on a fateful, cold Sunday, Jan. 9, 2022, as snow lay on the roofs of cars and along the street.
