Van Cortlandt Jewish Center (VCJC) President Stu Harris and Board Chair Jack Kleinfeld have succeeded in boasting about their disinformation and distortion campaign that has resulted in the worst possible real estate deal available, not only for the VCJC congregation, but for the community at large as well.

Health Check: Collaborating with the Community on Health & Wellness Education    

On a typical month, I get to connect with hundreds of people at churches, community centers, colleges, shelters and more as a community health specialist within Montefiore Hospital’s Office of Community and Population Health. Representatives for Hoops in the Sun Inc. (HITS), a leading community-based basketball program, say they are proud to bring the 24th season of “Roundball Classic Summer Tournaments,” to Orchard Beach Park on Saturday, June 15, and Sunday, June 16, starting at noon on their sponsored courts in Orchard Beach Park. Organizers said the event features the best basketball talent from all ages and boroughs in New York City.  

UPDATE Unity Democrats Allege “Dinowitz Democratic Team” Ran Political Campaign Out of Local Nonprofit 

Local political organization, The Unity Democratic Club, is calling out the “Dinowitz Democratic Team,” a slate of candidates the club alleges were recruited and funded by local Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz (A.D. 81), for allegedly violating a long-standing congressional ban on [political] campaign activity by nonprofits, a law administered by the IRS. Early voting begins on Saturday, June 15, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Students Cycle for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

Over 120 students attending Allerton’s New York Institute for Special Education, took part in the school’s annual “Trike-A-Thon” event on May 15 to raise funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Manhattan.

VCJC Votes to Sell Center & Return as Partial Tenants

After news broke earlier this year that the Board of Trustees of Van Cortlandt Jewish Center (VCJC) were in discussions with a developer to sell the building, despite some pushback from the local community, on Sunday, May 19, VCJC members called for a special membership meeting to be held to discuss the situation.
