Unable to gather for the annual memorial event for two consecutive years due to COVID-19 restrictions, family members of the 87 people killed in the 1990 Happy Land Social Club fire gathered in late March with members of Bronx Community Board 6, first responders and elected officials to remember, once again, the victims of the tragic event. Bridge lift testing on the Manhattan span of the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge is scheduled for the early morning of Friday, April 8, with intermittent closures planned for both directions of traffic. A 29-year-old man has died following a scooter collision in the Belmont section of The Bronx. On Thursday, March 24, at approximately 10.32 p.m., police responded to a 911 call regarding an unconscious man who was lying on the roadway at Southern Boulevard near Crotona Avenue, in the Belmont section of the Bronx. A residential fire in a multiple dwelling was brought under control in the vicinity of Van Cortlandt Village in The Bronx on the same day that the mayor signed an executive order strengthening fire safety legislation.
