UPDATE Bedford Park: Motor Vehicle Accident Reportedly Results in One Injured Scooter Driver

The driver of a scooter was reportedly injured and treated at a local hospital following a motor vehicle accident on Jerome Avenue in Bedford Park on Monday in what appears to be the second collision to occur along a two-block section of the avenue, and within 10 days of a previous collision involving a bus and a car.   Bystander, Levan Vashakidze, told Norwood News by phone that the accident occurred at around 1.40 p.m. on Monday, May 22. Fordham Heights: Residential Fire Causes No Injuries

No injuries were reported following a fire in Fordham Heights on Friday, May 19, the FDNY said.   A spokesperson for the fire department said they received a call at 10.48 p.m. on Friday for reports of smoke/a fire at 2357 Walton Avenue. The spokesperson said the fire broke out on the first floor of 5-story, multiple dwelling and was brought under control at 11:19 p.m. There were no injuries according to the FDNY. Asked if the cause of the blaze was established, the FDNY spokesperson said the cause was not yet known.      

UPDATE Baychester: 10 Hospitalized following Motor Vehicle Collision

Officials from The Fire Department of New York said 10 people were transported to hospital following a motor vehicle collision on Monday afternoon in Baychester, south of Co-op City, and one further person was also injured but not hospitalized.   The incident was reported at 3.18 p.m. at Einstein Loop North and Hutchinson River Parkway East on Monday, May 15, and involved four separate vehicles.   An NYPD spokeswoman said an 80-year-old man was driving a jeep traveling northbound on Hutchinson River Parkway when he collided at the intersection with a yellow school bus, driven by a 72-year-old woman.

UPDATE Williamsbridge: Four Burned in Construction Site Work-Place Incident

Four people were injured following a burn-related incident at 739 East Gun Hill Road, the site of a new building under construction, on Monday morning, May 15, FDNY officials said.   All hands were asked to respond to the location at 8.38 a.m. on Monday. An FDNY spokesperson told Norwood News, “It was not a fire. It was a work-place related incident.” He explained that the department initially received a call regarding a fire at the location but it later transpired that it was a work-place related incident, saying there was some type of “ignition” that caused burns but that

State Sen. Gustavo Rivera (S.D. 33) joined his colleagues in the senate majority to vote for the 10 bills approving the 2023-2024 New York State Budget of $229 billion before Gov. Kathy Hochul finally signed the overdue budget into law on May 3. UPDATE Olinville: Mothers Day Residential Fire Under Control

All hands were called on Sunday afternoon, May 14, to respond to a fire on the third floor of a multiple dwelling located at 3003 Olinville Avenue in the Olinville section of the borough, just north of Parkside Housing Project.   An FDNY spokesperson told Norwood News that the department received the call at 2.34 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. “Members were able to determine that the fire was located in the multiple dwelling [at 3003 Olinville Avenue],” the spokesperson said. Bedford Park: Smoke Seen on Sunny Mothers Day Close to Gas Station

Norwood News has received a report of a possible fire in the Bedford Park section of The Bronx where smoke but no fire was seen some time on Sunday afternoon before 1.47 p.m. The location is situated close to a gas station.   Fire trucks were seen in the vicinity of 2885 Jerome Avenue on Sunday afternoon. Wakefield: Mothers Day Residential Fire Under Control

A fire broke out in the Wakefield section of the Bronx on Sunday afternoon, according to the FDNY, in which two people were reported injured.   Fire officials said all hands responded to what was initially categorized as a 2-alarm fire at 4519 Seton Avenue, a private property in the Wakefield section of The Bronx, on Sunday, May 14,  at 1.46 p.m. The response comprised 33 fire units and 138 members, according to the FDNY.   An FDNY spokesperson said, “Members were able to determine that the fire was located within a private dwelling at that location.
