Local Councilman Votes to Ban Single-Use Plastic Straws

District 11 Council Member Eric Dinowitz cast his vote to ban single use plastic straws at a recent City Council meeting. The legislation Int. 936-A was brought up through the Council Committee on Consumer Affairs and Business Licensing. The bill would ban food service establishments from providing plastic straws unless an individual specifically asks for one. Friends of Hutchinson River Greenway Hold Clean-Up Event

Local biking enthusiast and Bronxite, Kevin Daloia, recently re-formed the environmental group, Friends of the Hutchinson River Greenway. No Trash, Recycling Collection or Street Cleaning on Memorial Day, Monday May 31

There will be no trash, recycling collection or street cleaning Monday, May 31, in observance of Memorial Day, as announced by New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) on Wednesday, May 19.    Residents who normally receive Monday trash collection may place their material at the curb between 4 p.m. and midnight Monday evening.
