The Jerome Gun Hill Business Improvement District (BID), in partnership with Bronx Bound Books, play:groundNYC, PEN America, and Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz (A.D. 81), will be hosting an Earth Day celebration on Friday, April 22, from 2.30 p.m. to  5.30 p.m. at the Jerome Gun Hill BID parklet space located at 3498 Jerome Avenue.   The BID will be distributing Earth Day giveaways to help shoppers and residents use less plastic straws and other plastics in their day-to-day lives, such as reusable bags, water bottles, and straws. Jerome Park Memorial Event Planned for Saturday, April 9, for those Lost to COVID-19

A coalition of community groups and residents, including Friends of Jerome Park, will hold a memorial event to honor all those lost to COVID-19 to date, as the country surpasses a second year of the pandemic. UPDATE NWS Issues Flood Advisory for New York through April 9

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a flood advisory for New York which is in effect until Saturday, April 9, at 3 a.m. Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected in southeast New York, including in the The Bronx, Manhattan and Westchester, and in portions of southern Connecticut like Fairfield.   Minor flooding is expected in low-lying areas and areas with poor drainage. Ponds of water are taking shape in urban and other areas or are imminent. Pothole Hazard in the Middle of Jerome Avenue Finally Fixed

A large pothole that had been doubling as a trash receptacle in the middle of a Jerome Park intersection has finally been fixed, after an official from the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) explained the cause of the delay was a broken “catch basin” that needed to be repaired.   A catch basin is located at the point where a street gutter discharges into a sewer and is designed to catch and retain matter that would not pass readily through the sewer.
