Adams & NYC Parks Announce Pilot Program Extending Summer Hours at the High Bridge

Mayor Eric Adams and NYC Parks Commissioner Sue Donoghue announced a pilot on Friday, June 17, that will extend the High Bridge opening hours this summer, giving New Yorkers expanded access to the iconic landmark connecting The Bronx and Manhattan. Will New Waste Management Plans Help Resolve Trash Overload?

The lack of trash cans for pedestrians on Bronx streets has been noticed by residents for quite a while. As reported, the situation worsened amid the pandemic with many people eating outdoors in parks, especially in summertime, often causing existing cans to be overloaded. UPDATE NWS Issues Thunderstorm & Flooding Warning on Thursday, June 2, until 5.45 p.m.

The New York City office of the National Weather Service (NWS) issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Bronx county and nearby regions on Sunday, May 22, until 4:15 p.m.   “A severe thunderstorm was located over Oradell, or over Paramus, moving southeast at 25 mph,” NWS officials said. “Wind gusts of 60 mph are expected,” according to the agency’s radar. UPDATE Parks Dept: Cordoned Off Section of Williamsbridge Oval Unrelated to Legionnaires’ Cluster

New York City Department of Parks & Recreation has allayed fears that a section of Williamsbridge Oval park in Norwood may have been cordoned off to curtail the potential spread of Legionnaires’ disease, following an announcement on Saturday, May 21, by the Bronx Borough President that the City’s health department were investigating a now confirmed cluster of the illness that had been identified in the Highbridge and Melrose sections of the borough.   Legionnaires’ disease is a form of pneumonia. “Four people have been diagnosed with Legionnaires’ disease since May 9, 2022, and results for other individuals are pending,” Gibson

National Weather Service NYC Issues Severe Thunderstorm Warning on Sunday Night, May 22, until 8.45 p.m.

The New York City office of the National Weather Service (NWS) issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Bronx county and nearby regions on Sunday, May 22, until 8.45 p.m. At 7.39 p.m., weather officials said severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from Paterson to near Caldwell and East Hanover, moving northeast at 25 mph. They said there is a hazard of 60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail according to a radar source.   They said minor hail damage to vehicles is possible, and to expect wind damage to trees and power lines. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation issued an air quality advisory for New York City for Saturday, May 21, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. The pollutant of concern is Ozone.
