UPDATE Poultry Markets Reopen & Zoo Tackles Bird Flu

Live poultry markets in New York are back open after a five-day closure was implemented by New York Gov. Kathy Hochul on Friday, Feb. 7, after the avian flu/bird flu or H5N1 virus was discovered in bird flocks at seven live bird markets in The Bronx, Queens, and Brooklyn. Officials said the ordered closures were mandated for testing, cleaning and disinfection of poultry markets in New York City, Westchester and Long Island.

Sanitation Dept Issues Snow Alert for Sunday, January 19, at 7 a.m.

NYC Department of Sanitation (DSNY) has issued a snow alert for Sunday, Jan. 19, beginning at 7 a.m. and continuing until 2 a.m. Monday. A snow alert is the department’s “higher level” snow-fighting notification, as opposed to the “lower level” winter operations advisory. DSNY officials said that while there have been several winter operations advisories issued this winter already, this is the first storm to warrant a snow alert.

UPDATE Norwood: Water Main Burst Causes Major Flooding on Webster Avenue

An apparent burst to a water mains pipe caused major flooding and havoc to both residents and local businesses in the vicinity of Webster Avenue, East 201st Street, Mosholu Parkway South, and Bedford Park Boulevard in Norwood / Bedford Park on Monday night, Dec. 16, according to eyewitness accounts. Several cars in the area were seen semi-submerged in water amid the flooding. 

Tremont: Group Sought for Robbery

The NYPD is asking for the public’s help identifying the vehicle and perpetrators seen in the attached video and photos in connection to a robbery that occurred in Tremont.
