NYC Emergency Management Advises New Yorkers to Prepare for Severe Thunderstorm on June 26

New York City Emergency Management Department (EMS) issued a travel advisory for Monday afternoon, June 26, through Tuesday, June 27. EMS officials said according to the National Weather Service, New York City may experience scattered showers with the potential for severe thunderstorms starting late afternoon through the evening. They said the severe thunderstorms may affect the evening’s commute, with rain expected to continue into Tuesday morning. Rain amounts will range from a quarter of an inch to half an inch. There is also a potential for minor flooding in poor drainage areas. NYC Emergency Management Commissioner Zach Iscol said,

The New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) has announced its trash, compost and recycling collection schedule for Juneteenth, June 19, 2023, advising that there will be trash collection on the holiday in line with the Department’s mission to get New York City cleaner, faster. DSNY officials said that residents who normally receive Monday trash and composting collection should put their material at the curb on Sunday evening, June 18, for collection starting Monday, and residents who normally receive Monday recycling collection should put their material at the curb Monday evening, June 19, for collection starting Tuesday. Regular riders of the Bx12 bus who complain that most days the buses are crowded, and that there are not enough of them can look to the latest findings from both the Metropolitan Transportation Administration (MTA) and NYC Department of Transportation (DOT) for confirmation. Officials from both agencies updated residents and Bronx Community Board 7’s Traffic & Transportation committee at the last committee meeting before the summer break on Thursday, June 1. Local graffiti removal group, Guerinos against Graffitti* have been thanked by their neighbors following the group’s confirmation that most of the graffiti on 204th Street between Mosholu Parkway and Valentine Avenue in Bedford Park has been recently removed. Sirio Guerino, cofounder of the group, said the work was done in honor of the May 52nd Precinct Community Council Meeting.
