CM Dinowitz Breaks Down Highlights of $107 Billion City Budget & $30 Million for C.D. 11

City Councilman Eric Dinowitz (C.D. 11) gave a budget presentation to district residents on Wednesday, Aug. 2, highlighting some of the local initiatives that will benefit from funding, following the adoption of the City’s $107 billion budget for the 2024 fiscal year. The councilman went over the city budget process, discussed the major highlights from the latest adopted city budget, and broke down some of the $30 million plus in discretionary funding for capital projects and other funding secured for C.D. 11, in conjunction with Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson.

UPDATE FDNY Called to Tracey Towers for Electrical Incident

Reports of a fire at Tracey Towers, a Mitchel Lama, residential housing complex located on the Bedford Park/Norwood border, on Saturday morning, July 15, proved to be unfounded, and the incident was later classified as an electrical issue, FDNY officials said.

DOT Launches Initiative to Reduce Package Theft & Negative Environmental Impact of Truck Deliveries

New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez announced on June 30 that the agency will launch LockerNYC, a pilot program this summer to cut down on package theft and reduce delivery truck trips. The LockerNYC pilot program, which will run for one year, will allow New Yorkers to conveniently receive and send packages using secure lockers on public sidewalks, DOT officials said.   The pilot will include 15 locations and offer customers free 24/7 access, according to DOT officials. UPDATE MTA, DOT Outline Bx12 Planned Service Improvements on Fordham Road & on Other Routes

Regular riders of the Bx12 bus who complain that most days the buses are crowded, and that there are not enough of them can look to the latest findings from both the Metropolitan Transportation Administration (MTA) and NYC Department of Transportation (DOT) for confirmation. Officials from both agencies updated residents and Bronx Community Board 7’s Traffic & Transportation committee at the last committee meeting before the summer break on Thursday, June 1.   Reading from a slide show presentation, one official said, “The Bx12 is the busiest bus route in The Bronx, and second busiest in NYC after the M15.”

BX BP and BX Economic Development Corp. Announce $1 Million Sustainability Challenge to BX Students

Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson and the Bronx Economic Development Corporation (BXEDC) announced the launch of the first-of-its-kind environmental sustainability challenge on Monday, May 8.   BXEDC representatives said the Bronx Green Action Challenge will award up to $1 million to a Bronx-based college or university for the development and implementation of a project or set of projects that improve campus sustainability, and reduce that institution’s environmental footprint. DynaDrive Fresh Water Well Pumps Recalled Due to Risk of Electric Shock

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall on April 20 of about 1,060 units of DynaDrive Fresh Water Well Pumps with model numbers DD60-10NPT and DD90-11NPT and serial numbers between 190791000 and 223365720, due to the fact that the pumps are not adequately grounded and can pose an electric shock hazard to the user.   CPSC officials said the recalled products are water pumps used to stabilize water pressure for fresh water wells. ACS Recommends Three Entities to Run “Alternative to Detention” Programs for Court-Involved Youth
