UPDATE Primaries 2024: Bronx Dems Announce Landon Dais as Nominee for A.D. 77 Seat in Feb. 13 Special Election
Landon Dais was announced as the Democratic nominee for Assembly District 77 at the Bronx County Committee meeting of the 77th Assembly District held on Jan. 18, according to the Bronx Democratic Party. The committee announced that the duly elected committee members voted unanimously to nominate Dais for the seat, vacated when, as reported, former Assembly Member Latoya Joyner announced her surprise resignation on Jan. 4.

Michael Heller announced Jan. 10 that he is running for re-election as a member of the New York State Democratic Committee, representing the 81st Assembly District, which covers much of the Northwest Bronx includes some or all of the neighborhoods of Norwood, Bedford Park, Wakefield, Woodlawn, Kingsbridge, Fieldston, Riverdale, North Riverdale and Spuyten Duyvil.

For the second time in less than two months, members of the Bronx Anti-War Coalition held a “Speak Out” rally outside the Bronx office of Congressman Richie Torres (NY-15) in Belmont on Friday, Dec. 15. The group called for a ceasefire to the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas and demanded an end to financial support of Israel’s war efforts by the United States.

The Bronx entry finished in fourth place.
Elections 2023: Democratic CM Marjorie Velázquez Concedes District 13 Race to Republican Kristy Marmorato
Democratic District 13 City Council Member Marjorie Velázquez conceded the general election in her district held Nov. 7 to her Republican opponent, Kirsty Marmorato, on Thursday, Nov. 9. As reported, Marmorato had a narrow lead on Velázquez on Election Night at poll closure with 49.97 percent of the vote to Velázquez’s 49.25 percent, but a few hours later, with 98.33 percent of voting scanners returned, Marmorato’s lead had stretched to 52.46 percent (6,571 votes) to Velázquez’s 46.81 percent (5,863 votes), based on Election Day and early votes. The Republican candidate who ran a campaign based on quality of life and public safety concerns, declared victory in the race later that night.

Troon, described by company officials as a leader in providing golf and club-related leisure and hospitality services, and Bally’s Golf Links at Ferry Point in The Bronx, announced a new consulting agreement and sales and marketing partnership on Wednesday, Nov. 8. Bally’s officials said they selected Troon to provide support with operations, procurement, sales and marketing, retail merchandising, and agronomy.
