NY Lottery: Third-Prize-Winning Powerball Ticket Sold in Pelham Gardens

The New York Lottery announced on Jan. 14 that a third-prize-winning ticket was sold in the Pelham Gardens section of The Bronx for the Jan. 13 Powerball drawing. They said the ticket was sold at Surin Discount Liquors, located a 2444 Eastchester Road, and was worth $50,000.

NY Lottery: Winning Ticket Sold in Jerome Park

It was a lucky weekend for one Jerome Park resident. The New York Lottery announced that one top-prize winning ticket was sold in the neighborhood for the Jan. 13 midday drawing. Lottery officials said the ticket was sold at JB Gas & Food, located at 2947 Jerome Avenue, and was worth $19,795.50.

Funeral Arrangements Announced for Norwood Community Leader Joseph McCarthy

Former Norwood teacher and Perry Avenue resident, Joseph McCarthy, died on Sunday, Jan. 7, aged 79. The news was confirmed by his brother, John, who described Joe as a local influential figure and community leader in the ‘60s ’70s and ’80s, who was heavily involved with the local school board.

Cardinal Hayes Football Day Declared after School’s Victory  

Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson hosted a celebration for the Cardinal Hayes High School football team on Dec. 21 at Bronx Borough Hall, after the South Bronx school won its first state championship against St. Francis High School 40-22.
