The transgender flag was raised for the first time in front of Bronx Borough Hall on April 1, marking a historic moment for the Bronx transgender community, and coinciding roughly with Transgender Day of Visibility, which is celebrated nationally each year on March 31. Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson was joined by Bronx LGTBQIA+ leaders for the historic occasion in The Bronx.

Friends, former Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. and Hip Hop legend Fat Joe, gathered at Lehman College on March 26 to discuss their respective professional lives, as well as their upbringings and their ongoing commitment to improving The Bronx. The annual event at Lehman, ordinarily held in the form of a lecture, was, this year, called, “Hip Hop with a Heart: The Civic Mind of The Bronx.” The lecture series itself dates back to 1970.
LPC Designates Aqueduct Walk as Bronx’s First Scenic Landmark in Unanimous Vote
The New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) celebrated the 50th anniversary of scenic landmarks in New York City with a unanimous vote to designate Old Croton Aqueduct Walk, located in University Heights, as The Bronx’s first scenic landmark, and the twelfth scenic landmark designated citywide. The vote and announcement, which as reported, took place on April 16, marks 50 years to the day since the commission designated Central Park as New York City’s first scenic landmark on April 16, 1974.
The Orchid Show: Florals in Fashion Stuns at NYBG
“The Orchid Show: Florals in Fashion” brings the catwalk to the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory at Bedford Park’s New York Botanical Garden in a fashion-inspired celebration of all things orchid. Attendees are treated to bold, new, orchid-inspired designs, displayed on standing mannequins, created by New York’s rising stars of the stitch. These include the dramatic, picture-perfect floral displays of Collina Strada by Hillary Taymour, Dauphinette by Olivia Cheng, and FLWR PSTL by Kristen Alpaugh.
