Latanya DeVaughn loves books. Her love of books can be traced back to her childhood, from watching her grandmother read to neighbors who couldn’t, and from scouring yard sales for used books with her aunt. Years later, that love manifested in the mobile bookstore, Bronx Bound Books.

Join fellow aspiring Bronx creatives for a Saturday evening mixer, featuring a panel of film industry professionals on April 16. A collective of artists committed to elevating cinema culture in the Bronx will be hosting the first program of 2022: a networking event with the goal of connecting filmmakers and creators with each other. New York City Mayor Eric Adams released the following statement on Monday, April 11, after officially designating Juneteenth a paid city holiday for the first time in New York City history. The mayor, who announced he had contracted COVID-19 on Sunday, April 10, said, “As the second Black mayor of New York City, I know that I stand on the shoulders of countless heroes and sheroes who put their lives on the line to secure a more perfect union. Now is the time for me to do a small part and recognize one of our nation’s greatest wrongs.”

Local Spuyten Duyvil resident, Stephanie Coggins, is encouraging families, friends and neighbors to attend the co-naming ceremony of Palisade Avenue / John J McKelvey Sr. Villa Rosa Bonheur Way, on April 8, an event hosted by District 11 Councilman Eric Dinowitz. On December 15, 2021, legislation created and advanced by the councilman was passed at City Council which paved the way for the co-naming of the intersection of Palisade Avenue and Independence Avenue. According to Coggins, the co-naming celebrates the wide-ranging and historical contributions of McKelvey Sr. to modern day Spuyten Duyvil and the larger community encompassed by Bronx
