Volunteers Continue “Flagging” Tradition at Woodlawn Cemetery

Volunteers, once again, carried out the painstaking task of locating more than 8,000 graves of American servicemen and women to place American flags on them in honor of Memorial Day at Woodlawn Cemetery.   Volunteers fanned out across the sprawling cemetery, located at 4199 Webster Avenue at East 233rd Street, and placed small flags at the headstones or in front of community mausoleums as a gesture of respect and tradition for the country’s fallen military members.   This year’s “flagging” season began on Saturday, May 21, and continued through Sunday, May 29. Eid Al-Fitr Celebrated in Norwood Ending the Holy Month of Ramadan

Thousands of worshippers from Norwood’s North Bronx Islamic Center were looking forward to the annual, collective prayer service observance, known as Eid al-Fitr on the football field of Williamsbridge Oval Park to mark the end of Ramadan in May. In the wake of the Twin Parks fire tragedy in Fordham Heights on Sunday, Jan. 9, a tragedy that claimed the lives of 17 people, including 8 children, Felicia Galitsky remembered that years earlier she had passed a permanent roadside memorial erected in memory of other victims of a prior Bronx tragedy. Fordham Manor: Spring Festivities Event held at Devoe Park

With the lifting of COVID restrictions and the return of milder temperatures, Friends of Devoe Park hosted a “Spring Sprouting Festivities” Easter celebration at Devoe Park on Saturday, April 30.   Inside the park, located at University Avenue and Father Zeiser Place in the Fordham Manor section of The Bronx, youngsters enjoyed a host of events including face painting, an egg hunt of with eggs filled with bubble-gum, as well as several rounds of musical chairs. In-Tech Academy Paint Club Students Honored at Publicolor Awards Ceremony

Tyeress Manley, a 10th grader at In-Tech Academy MS/HS 368 in Marble Hill, recalled hearing about Paint Club from a couple of friends. They had visited one of his classes and had told him that the club was a great way to relieve stress, and at the same time, have fun.
