Bronx Photos: Sliding Into New School Year At PS/MS 20

Students from PS/MS 20 on Webster Avenue in Norwood celebrate the arrival of a completely revamped playground area on Friday, Aug 31, just a week before school started yesterday. Our photographer, Adi Talwar, was there to document the grand opening of the playground, which was dedicated to the school’s longtime and beloved parent coordinator, Haydee Muley Criscenti, who passed away last October.

Bronx Photos: East 204th Summer Streets Festival

Hundreds of Norwood residents turned out for the Summer Street’s festival held along East 204th Street on Sunday, Aug. 5. The event featured a live segment taped by the cast of BronxNet’s “No Offense But…”, performances by LoZoneros, Anayka, SALESE and Arlene G, among others, as well as kids’ games, salsa lessons, a fitness boot camp demonstration and more. The free, day-long event was hosted by the East 204th Street and Bainbridge Avenue Merchants Association, the Mosholu Preservation Corporation and Community Board 7. Marketing and Advertising Solutions (MAS), helped organize the festival.

Bronx Notes: National Night Out at Oval Park (and Elsewhere)

The 52nd Precinct Community Council will celebrate its 29th annual National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 7, at the Williamsbridge Oval, from 5 to 8 p.m., featuring free entertainment, music, games, face painting, and refreshments. At Bronx Library, Entertainers Talk ‘Fame and (Mis)Fortune’

Last Tuesday evening, hip-hop artist Christopher “Play” Martin and R&B songstress Meli’sa Morgan spoke to a packed room at the Bronx Library Center for a “Fame and (Mis)Fortune” talk, an opportunity for the pair to discuss financial literacy and their own financial struggles.

Two entertainers who made it big in the 1990s, Play from the hip hop duo Kid n’ Play and Meli’sa Morgan, are coming to the Bronx Library Center (E. Kingsbridge Road, just north of Fordham Road), to talk about financial literacy and share their personal financial struggles. “Fame and (Mis)Fortune” starts tonight at 6 p.m. at the Library Center.
