One of the Bronx’s known attractions, The Bronx Zoo is hosting a Halloween event called Boo At the Zoo. It includes activies such as costume parades, magic shows, pumpkin craving and much more. Media Stars Offer a ‘Salute to the Bronx’

The event, called “Salute to the Bronx,” held on Sept. 26 in the library’s basement auditorium, was led by two Bronx natives — MSNBC host Chris Hayes alongside Darlene Rodriguez from NBC-4 New York.

Bronx Biz: Fordham BID Expands Sanitation Services

In plans unveiled at a press conference in September, the Fordham Road Business Improvement District (BID) announced plans to expand its sanitation services east on Fordham Road to Washington Avenue to include One Fordham Plaza (the property) as well as the outdoor vendors’ market. The services are also being offered north on Webster Avenue to include Cookies Department Store.

Passage: Reflecting on My Father in the Bronx

Michael Popowich Sr. was born on March 14, 1944, and lived until June 15, 2012. It is my sad opportunity to share this with his friends and neighbors in the Bronx. Dad grew up in Manhattan, and was raised by my Uncle Walter Kunick, who also lived in the Norwood section of the Bronx by the Reservoir Oval — the same neighborhood where I lived with my father for over 40 years.

Bronx Notes: CB7 Parks & Rec Meeting

Community Board 7’s Parks and Recreation committee will meet tonight, Thursday, Oct. 4, at 6:30 p.m. at the board office, 229A E. 204th St. CB7 is contiguous with the Norwood News’ primary coverage area and includes the neighborhoods of Fordham, Kingsbridge Heights, University Heights, Bedford Park and Norwood. Bronx Notes: UNHP Fundraiser at Bronx Ale House

The University Neighborhood Housing Program, a local nonprofit think tank and multi-service provider, is holding a fundraiser tonight at the Bronx Ale House. The event kicks off at 4:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 and include a commemorative pint glass, a free drink, and food. We will also be raffling off some great prizes including Yankee tickets and a Bronx Ale House beer basket.

Bronx Notes: Flag Football Program

The New York City Christian Athletic League, based in the northwest Bronx, is accepting registration forms for the upcoming fall season for those ages 12 to 18. The league starts Sept. 15 and will run for 10 weeks. All games will be played on Saturday mornings at Harris Field. The fee for all players is $25.
