Although the Bronx was not hit as bad as Zone A sections of Brooklyn, Long Island, Lower Manhattan, and Queens, we did experienced our share of damages due to high winds that caused trees to collapse on cars, homes and power lines. The images in this slideshow were taken in the aftermath of of Storm Sandy by Bronxites and the Norwood News team, including Diana Perez, David Greene, Danilka Infante, Brittney Jackson and Alex Kratz. Zombie Virus Outbreak at the ‘Bronx Haunted Warehouse’

This just in: A mutating zombie virus has contaminated a small section of the Bronx and is threatening to take over all of New York City. At the moment, all those infected are quarantined safely within the walls of a scary-looking warehouse on Commerce Avenue in the southeast Bronx. The public, or at least those brave enough, is welcome to come and see for themselves the severity of this virus. But, of course, they must enter at their own risk. No one is liable for any zombie bites, scratches or missing children.

Bronx Notes: Tour Van Cortlandt Park Cemeteries

Van Cortlandt Park is one of the largest parks in New York City. Not only does it have extensive facilities, but is also rich in Bronx and New York City history. Join Bronx Borough Historian, Lloyd Ultan on a tour through the park, highlighting the ancient burial grounds and more hidden treasures on Sunday, Oct. 28 at 2 p.m. This tour will meet on Broadway and West 246th Street. Please make reservations in advance! Take the #1 train to Van Cortlandt Park/West 242nd Street or Bronx bus #9, Westchester Bee Line bus #3, or Manhattan-Bronx MTA Express bus #3. This event is organized by the Bronx County Historical Society.

Bronx Photos: It’s My Park Day 2012 – Mosholu Parkway

These photos are from an It’s My Park Day event last Saturday, Oct. 20, on Mosholu Parkway. Members of the Bedford Mosholu Community Association partnered with about 25 young people from Christodora, a nonprofit environmental education group, and a dozen members (four generations) of Democratic Assembly candidate (80th District) Mark Gjonaj’s family. “It’s was a big success,” BMCA’s Barbara Stronczer in an email.
