Bronx Notes: ‘Chorus Line’ Rescheduled at Lehman Center for Monday

Lehman Center recently announced that it’s performance of “A Chorus Line” has been rescheduled for Monday, March 4 at 7 p.m. Here’s a note from the center’s executive director Eva Bornstein: “All ticket holders are encouraged to keep their tickets to attend the performance’s new date. Before Big Show, H.S. Students Warm Up With a Legend

Melissa Manchester, the Grammy-winning singer who has her name etched into a sign on the Bronx Walk of Fame, walked into a rehearsal hall at Lehman College last Thursday morning, the day before she was to perform at the Grand Central Terminal Centennial Celebration at the iconic Manhattan train station.

Bronx Teens and Bronx Hall of Famer Melissa Manchester Prepare for Grand Central Celebration

Tomorrow morning, Bronx Hall of Famer and singing legend Melissa Manchester will be performing at Grand Central Terminal for the 100-year birthday party for the iconic New York City train station. Singing the back-up chorus for Manchester will be the Celia Cruz Bronx High School of Music Show Choir. Today, the collaborators got together at Lehman College to rehearse. Above is a video of the song they will be performing together, “Traveling Far,” from the musical “Orphan Train.” Lisa Gwasda, the choir director, called Manchester “a brilliant teacher” who worked extremely well with her talented group of teenagers.

When a mustachioed and smiling man with a large camera dangling around his neck tucked a beer into his jacket pocket and emerged from the gaggle of people surrounding the Bronx Documentary Center, I knew we had arrived at the most happening corner in the Boogie Down on an early Saturday night. The gaggle and the dozens slowly moving around inside the Documentary Center, at the corner of 151st Street and Courtlandt Avenue, were there for the opening night of the new photography exhibit, “Seis Del Sur” (Six From the South [Bronx]), which is garnering loads of positive attention for the artists and the center.
