Out & About: Patti Labelle Plays the Bronx Saturday Night

Lehman Center on Saturday night, with Xavier Lewis and Whiskey Peach opening up. Before the show, which starts at 8 p.m., there will be a gala benefiting Lehman Center and the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore from 4:30 to 7 p.m.

In case you missed it Sunday night, here’s the 60 Minutes piece on the Robin Hood Foundation, a deep-pocketed anti-poverty group. The piece features a profile of one of the foundation’s grantees, Part of the Solution, or POTS, a soup kitchen and multi-service organization on Webster Avenue in the Bronx that aims to get struggling people back on their feet. They opened up a beautiful brand new facility last year, thanks in part to Robin Hood.

Bangladeshi Group Gathers in Bronx To Support War Crimes Tribunal

Dozens of Bangladeshi New Yorkers congregated at a church in Norwood on a recent Sunday evening to demonstrate their support for a controversial war crimes tribunal that is prosecuting alleged crimes against humanity stemming from Bangladesh’s war for independence more than 40 years ago.

In a move announced on the Norwood News’ Facebook page, Pastor Bob Rainis left Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Epiphany (known as Epiphany Lutheran Church) in early March, just as the church was in the midst of its own transition.
