Ibrahim Gonzalez’s wife Janet Norquist-Gonzalez sent out this schedule of memorial events, starting with a viewing in Harlem this evening and concluding with a funeral service, burial and music jam here in the Bronx at Woodlawn Cemetery.

Bronx Arts Ensemble Spring Concert

PS 1X The Courtlandt School presents the Bronx Arts Ensemble “Ode to Joy” Spring Concert featuring the PS 1X Honors Choir, Michael Davidman on piano, narration by W.T. McRae and the Bronx Arts Ensemble Orchestra conducted by principal Jorge Perdomo. There will be two concerts at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 5 at PS 1X The Courtlandt School, 335 E. 152nd Street. The 2 p.m. concert will include a performance of “Peter and the Wolf” and the 4 p.m. concert will include “Babar the Little Elephant.”

Bronx Notes: Free Boat Rowing

The Bronx-based Rocking the Boat community rowing program offers visitors the opportunity to row on the Bronx River or enjoy a guided tour of the plants and wildlife of the park every Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. through Aug. 31, until Labor Day, at Hunts Point Riverside Park (Edgewater Road at Lafayette Avenue).

Bronx Photo: Fordham Movie Night

Dozens of people showed up at the Fordham Business Improvement District’s first-ever movie night at Fordham Plaza. On Friday, April 26, local residents took in “The Amazing Spider-Man,” the first of four scheduled showings this spring and summer. The BID’s sanitation crew is now cleaning up the Fordham Plaza area and the events are part of an effort to make the area a gathering spot. The next showing is “Despicable Me” on Friday, June 28, at 8:30 p.m.

Bronx Notes: Serrano’s Off-Site Office Hours

Congressman Jose Serrano’s staff will be available for off-site evening hours to share information about office services, and to help answer specific individual questions at its next off-site hours event on Wednesday, May 22, from 5:30—7:00 p.m. at New York Public Library’s Belmont Branch, 610 East 186th St. Regular district office hours will continue to be provided, Monday through Thursday 9 a.m.—noon, at 1231 Lafayette Ave. (4th Floor).

Mosholu Parkway Gets Some ‘Friends’

A few years ago, a local advocacy group called Friends of Mosholu Parkway sought to “protect, promote, and beautify” Mosholu Parkway, the tree-lined thoroughfare stretching from Van Cortlandt Park to the Bronx River that includes many open community spaces. The group made the effort to establish itself, but unfortunately never achieved the level of notoriety it had hoped for. Now, a new group is trying to fill the void.
