Eastchester: Search for Man Wanted in Non-Fatal Shooting

UPDATE Man, 65, Dies in DOC Custody at North Infirmary Command of Rikers Island Prison

NYC Department of Correction (DOC) officials said a person in custody at the North Infirmary Command (NIC), part of Rikers Island detention center, has died, marking the first death of a person in DOC custody in 2023.   The news was confirmed by department officials on Saturday, Feb. 4 at around 11.20 a.m. “Marvin Pines, 65, who was in custody at the North Infirmary Command (NIC) passed away on 2/4/23,” a DOC official said. “Mr. Pines was pronounced dead at NIC at approx. 6.18 a.m. this morning.”   Reacting to the news, DOC Commissioner Louis A. Off-Duty Firefighter Arrested in The Bronx for Driving While Intoxicated

An off-duty firefighter has been arrested in The Bronx for driving while intoxicated police said.   An NYPD spokesperson said that on Friday, Feb. 3, at 9.44 p.m. José Valdez, 37, an FDNY firefighter was arrested in the 45th Precinct which covers the neighborhoods of Co-op City and City Island in the Northeast Bronx.   Valdez was charged with driving while intoxicated, leaving a scene with property damage as a driver, driving while impaired by alcohol, and refusing to take a breath test.   A person arrested and charged with a crime is deemed innocent unless and until convicted in
