UPDATE Mendez, Acevedo Brito Also Hit with Federal Charges in Death of Nicholas Dominici at Bronx Daycare Center

Following their arrests in The Bronx on murder, attempted murder, and other serious charges, Grei Mendez, the owner/caretaker of the Kingsbridge Heights daycare center where, as reported, one-year-old Nicholas Dominici lost his life on Friday, Sept. 15, and Carlisto Acevedo Brito, her accomplice, were also hit with further federal drug trafficking charges in Manhattan federal court on Tuesday, Sept. 19. 

One Kilo of Fentanyl Hidden Near Mat Where Bronx Daycare Babies Napped

Police officials said Monday that a kilo of fentanyl was found hidden under a mat on which babies had been napping at the Kingsbridge Heights daycare center on Friday, Sept. 18, where they fell unconscious. As reported, one-year-old Nicholas Dominici died later on Friday, after he was rushed to hospital by emergency services, along with a 2-year-old baby boy, and an 8-month-old baby girl, each of whom had been exposed to fentanyl.

Hochul Grants Clemency to Thirteen People

Gov. Kathy Hochul granted clemency on Sept. 8 to 13 people across the State. Government officials said the action, including ten pardons and three commutations, recognizes individuals demonstrating remorse, exemplifying rehabilitation, and displaying a commitment to improving themselves and their communities. They added that the action represents what they said was the governor’s continued fulfillment of her commitment to review and act on clemency applications on a rolling basis, rather than only once at the end of the year.  

Moped Driver Sought in North Bronx Robbery Pattern

The NYPD is asking for the public’s help identifying and locating the person seen in the attached photo who they say is sought in connection to a robbery pattern identified across various North Bronx neighborhoods, involving all female victims, during July and August. 

UPDATE Demonstrators Protest NYPD after Eric Duprey’s Death in Fordham Manor

Around thirty demonstrators took to the streets in Fordham Manor on Friday, Sept. 1, to protest the death of Eric Duprey, 30. According to updates from both the Office of the New York Attorney General (AG) investigations team and the NYPD, Duprey died following an NYPD operation in Fordham Manor on Aug. 23.

Jeremiah Ryan Gets 15 Years to Life in Prison for Fatal Shooting of Angellyh Yambo

Jeremiah Ryan, who was charged last year with the 2022 murder of innocent bystander and high school student, Angellyh Yambo, 16, in the Mott Haven section of The Bronx, as well as the attempted murder of two of her friends as they walked home from school together, was sentenced on Friday, Sept. 15, to 15 years to life in prison in relation to the gang-related incident. Ryan, who was 17 at the time of the unintended killing of Angellyh and the shooting of her friends, who were all hit in crossfire, pled guilty on Aug. 4 this year to second-degree murder, avoiding the need for a trial.
