UPDATE MTA, DOT Outline Bx12 Planned Service Improvements on Fordham Road & on Other Routes

Regular riders of the Bx12 bus who complain that most days the buses are crowded, and that there are not enough of them can look to the latest findings from both the Metropolitan Transportation Administration (MTA) and NYC Department of Transportation (DOT) for confirmation. Officials from both agencies updated residents and Bronx Community Board 7’s Traffic & Transportation committee at the last committee meeting before the summer break on Thursday, June 1.   Reading from a slide show presentation, one official said, “The Bx12 is the busiest bus route in The Bronx, and second busiest in NYC after the M15.”

Yankee Anthony Rizzo & Montefiore Join Forces to Raise Critical Funds for Children Battling Illness

The Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation, a non-profit organization founded by New York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo, and the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM) are partnering to raise funds for children battling illness, by supporting 27 runners representing CHAM in the TCS New York City Marathon, Montefiore officials said. They said every year, Montefiore gathers a team of “CHAMpions” to run the 26.2-mile marathon, held annually in November, to raise critical funds that support children undergoing treatments at CHAM. UNHP Celebrates 40 Years as New Report Ranks Bronxites among Worst Affected by Housing Crisis    

The University Neighborhood Housing Program (UNHP) was created in 1983 by Fordham University to help Bronxites take ownership of community-based redevelopment efforts. On Thursday, April 27, the organization celebrated 40 years with an event entitled “40 & Still Fighting Fiesta” held at Serviam Hall in Bedford Park.   The organizers also used the occasion to honor UNHP board president, Joe Muriana. DynaDrive Fresh Water Well Pumps Recalled Due to Risk of Electric Shock

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall on April 20 of about 1,060 units of DynaDrive Fresh Water Well Pumps with model numbers DD60-10NPT and DD90-11NPT and serial numbers between 190791000 and 223365720, due to the fact that the pumps are not adequately grounded and can pose an electric shock hazard to the user.   CPSC officials said the recalled products are water pumps used to stabilize water pressure for fresh water wells. Consumer Alert: NYS Consumer Protection Division Offers Scam Prevention Tips for Renters

New York Department of State’s Division of Consumer Protection announced the release earlier this month of a comprehensive guide with practical tips to help New Yorkers identify and avoid rental scams. The guide aims to help New Yorkers navigate housing scams, which department officials say are a continuously growing risk for consumers.   In 2022, they said the FBI received 11,727 real estate/rental scam related complaints with losses of over $396 million, an 86 percent increase compared to 2020.
