UPDATE Elections 2024: Gonzalo Duran on Transparency, Accountability & Leadership
Former Iraq combat veteran, U.S. Marine sergeant, chaplain, and CEO of the nonprofit Devil Dog USA, Gonzalo Duran is running for Congress in New York’s 15th Congressional District on the Republican and Conservative Party ticket. The district, which stretches from the northwest to the South Bronx is one of the country’s poorest congressional districts and is represented by Democratic Congressman Ritchie Torres profiled by Norwood News before his election win in 2020, and before taking up his seat in 2021.
Off-Duty NYC Corrections Officer Arrested for Assault & Robbery
Police said a NYC Corrections Officer was arrested on Friday, Nov. 1, and charged in the 43rd Precinct, which covers some or all of the neighborhoods of Westchester Avenue, Castle Hill Avenue, White Plains Road, and Parkchester. They said Jessica Bella-Flores, 40, was charged with robbery in the second degree and assault in the second degree. Bella-Flores is presumed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.

On Oct. 29, officials from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) said that the department delivered more care and more benefits to more veterans than ever before in fiscal year 2024, including to veterans, their families, and their survivors in New York.
