Puerto Rican Heritage Month Celebrated at Monroe College
Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson joined Ponce Bank to host her Annual Puerto Rican Heritage Month Celebration at Monroe on Tuesday, Nov. 14. Held inside the college’s Mintz Auditorium, located at 2501 Jerome Avenue, Bronx, the event honored individuals who have contributed to the growth and promotion of their community and culture.

Among the 51,402 finishers in the 2023 TCS New York City Marathon on Sunday, Nov. 5, were two local runners and members of Norwood-based running group, Bronx Nomads. We spoke to both women ahead of, and on, race day as they joined what New York Road Runners said was the world’s largest marathon of 2023, and the third-largest edition of the race in the event’s history.

NYC Department of Parks & Recreation announced on Nov. 15 the launch of free public tours to Hart Island, the City’s public cemetery and final resting place of over one million individuals. Seemingly shrouded in mystery, it is the largest public cemetery in the country and has served New York City since 1869.
