“Coach D” Remembered

Family, friends, colleagues, and players, young and old, who were trained by 60-year-old volunteer football coach, Dwight Downer, gathered in the Williamsbridge Oval Park in Norwood on Friday, Dec. 5, for a moving, candlelit vigil to pay tribute to their relative, friend, and mentor who died tragically following a multiple-vehicle road collision on Saturday morning, Nov. 30, a few minutes after midnight.

Tremont: Group Sought for Robbery

The NYPD is asking for the public’s help identifying the vehicle and perpetrators seen in the attached video and photos in connection to a robbery that occurred in Tremont. 

Allerton: Three Charged in Fentanyl/Heroin Packaging Operation in The Bronx

Federal prosecutors announced on Dec. 4, that three people were charged in a fentanyl/heroin packaging operation in the Allerton section of The Bronx. They said the bust was part of an ongoing investigation into fentanyl/heroin trafficking in New York City, and that federal, state, and local law enforcement officers recovered over 13 pounds of drug mixtures, including fentanyl, heroin, xylazine, methamphetamine, and cocaine, from inside the packaging mill.

Nearly a dozen friends and family members were at the back of a Bronx courtroom on Tuesday, Nov. 26, when Administrative Judge Alvin Yearwood approved a request from the Office of Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark to vacate the 2011 second-degree murder conviction of Kimberly Hanzlik, 59, for her role in the 1999 killing of Joseph Brown. The victim was shot and killed inside a bar formerly known as Frenchy’s on East Tremont Avenue in Throggs Neck.

City and State Officials Celebrate Opening of St. James Terrace

State, City and local officials, including those from New York State Homes and Community Renewal (HCR) hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the newly constructed St. James Terrace, a mixed-income, affordable, and supportive housing development located at 2520 Jerome Avenue in Fordham Manor on Oct. 29.
