Health Care Expands March 5 to All Vets Exposed to Toxins during Military Service at Home or Abroad

The U.S. Department of Veterans Services announced on Monday, Feb. 26, that all veterans who were exposed to toxins and other hazards while serving in the military, at home or abroad, will be eligible to enroll directly in VA health care beginning March 5. VA officials said this means all veterans who served in the Vietnam War, the Gulf War, Iraq, Afghanistan, the Global War on Terror, or any other combat zone after 9/11 will be eligible to enroll directly in VA health care without first applying for VA benefits.

Mt. Hope: Group Sought for Reckless Firing Shots on Street

The NYPD is asking for the public’s help locating the people seen in the attached video and photos who they say are sought in connection with an incident in which shots were reckless fired on the street in Mt. Hope on Feb. 10.

Soundview: Woman Arrested & Charged in 2022 Hit & Run Killing Cyclist

Police announced on Friday, Feb. 23, that a 28-year-old woman from the Unionport section of The Bronx has been arrested following a 2022 “hit & run” collision in the Soundview section of The Bronx which resulted in the death of a 21-year-old male cyclist. 

NY Lottery: 2nd Top-Prize Winning Ticket Sold in Allerton in 10 Days

The New York Lottery announced on Saturday, Feb. 24, a top-prize winning ticket was sold in The Bronx for the Feb. 23 TAKE 5 EVENING drawing. The ticket was sold at RANCH MINI MARKET & DELI INC., located at 2739 White Plains Road in Allerton just southeast of the Parkside Housing Project and was worth $38,846.50.

Two Brothers Charged in Car Theft Ring in The Bronx

New York Attorney General Letitia James and NYPD Commissioner Edward A. Caban announced on Dec. 28 that two brothers, Ricky Paulino, 25 and Rahinier Paulino, 30 have been charged with 16 crimes related to theft and possession of vehicles between January and October 2023. Officials from the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) said the indictment, unsealed in Bronx Supreme Court, was the result of a joint investigation by the OAG’s Organized Crime Task Force (OCTF) and the NYPD’s Auto Crime Division.

Norwood: Reopening of CVS Pharmacy on Bainbridge Avenue Expected in Spring

Following the early morning commercial fire which destroyed several small businesses on Bainbridge Avenue, located between East 205th and East 206th Streets in Norwood in October 2023, workers were seen working on the interior of the shuttered CVS Pharmacy on Wednesday, Feb. 21, signaling a potential reopening.

Rising female Bronx rapper, Ice Spice, took home the 2024 People’s Choice Award for New Artist of the Year at the 49th People’s Choice Awards held at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California on Sunday, Feb. 19.  The Fordham native saw off competition from Coi Leray, Jelly Roll, Jung Kook, Noah Kahan, Peso Pluma, PinkPantheress and Stephen Sanchez.
