UPDATE Primaries 2024: Unofficial Bronx Results & Reaction on Election Night, Latimer Declares Victory in NY-16
Despite the prolonged heatwave which could have possibly deterred some voters from showing up to vote for their local representatives on Primary Election Day, NYC Board of Elections reported that at three hours before poll closure on Tuesday, June 25, 20,946 voters had shown up to vote in The Bronx, and 148,355 across the City.
The initial unofficial local results are listed below after poll closure for the races in the north Bronx, with Rep. Jamaal Bowman declaring an early lead in the most contentious Democratic Primary race (NY-16). Anyone who was in line at 9 p.m. can still vote so these results will be updated as we receive more information.
Petition Launched on Change.Org to Stop the Sale of Van Cortlandt Jewish Center
An online petition was launched by a group called “Van Cortlandt” on June 9 on www.change.org to stop the proposed sale to a developer, as reported, of the Van Cortlandt Jewish Center (VCJC), located in the Van Cortlandt Village section of The Bronx. Though petitioners were asked to sign the petition by June 21, it appears to still be available.

Jamaal Bowman (NY-16) and Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez (NY-7), who represents parts of Brooklyn, at a last-minute campaign rally organized by the Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for Congress campaign team in St. Mary’s Park in the Mott Haven sectio of The Bronx on Saturday, June 22.

Independent U.S. Senator for Vermont and former U.S. presidential primary candidate Bernie Sanders held a roundtable for roughly ten minutes with four selected journalists from the New York City area on Saturday, June 22, in the Mott Haven section of The Bronx, just before he joined Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14) and Democratic Congressman Jamaal Bowman (NY-16) at a rally in Mott Haven’s St. Mary’s Park.
UPDATE One Pathway Foundation Dedicated to Helping Immigrants with Their University Education Launches
Under the motto “Creating Paths to a Better Future!” the One Pathway, Inc. foundation launched on Tuesday, June 4, at the Chase Community Center in Harlem, located at 55 West 125th Street, and according to its founders, is designed to empower immigrants and take advantage of their experience and educational training to “fly higher.”
