Bronx Zoo Gets $17 Million Energy Upgrade

NYC Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS), the New York Power Authority (NYPA), and the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) announced the completion on Friday, March 22, of mechanical work to the heating system at the Bronx Zoo, marking what they described as a significant upgrade to the beloved zoo’s infrastructure.

A Citizens app user shared a video posted on Friday, Dec. 15, of a raccoon apparently seen in the scaffolding of a construction site at 33 Bedford Park Boulevard East in the Bedford Park section of The Bronx, located to the right of a barber shop at 47 Bedford Park Boulevard East.

UPDATE NYC EMS & Department of Health Issue Advisory to New Yorkers on How to Beat the Heat

NYC Emergency Management Department (EMS) and the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOH) are advising New Yorkers to take precautions to beat the heat following a heat advisory by the National Weather Service (NWS), from 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 5, until 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 7. Hot and humid conditions are in the forecast from Tuesday to Thursday, with heat index values in the upper 90s across the City, according to NWS.

UPDATE Alligator Found in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park & Cared for at Bronx Zoo Died in April

Following reports that an alligator, seemingly abandoned in a Prospect Park lake in Brooklyn in February, had been taken in by the Bronx Zoo and was being cared for there, it’s been reported that, in the meantime, the alligator, nicknamed “Godzilla” has sadly since died.   In a statement released on April 21, Bronx Zoo officials said, “The alligator found on Sunday, 19 February 2023 in 37-degree Fahrenheit temperature at Prospect Park Lake and taken to the Bronx Zoo has died.
