Dancers aged 10 to 18 are being called upon to join the Juilliard Dance Experience, a full-day, in-person workshop which will give intermediate and advanced dancers the opportunity to experience Juilliard’s dance program, and take technique classes with current faculty and students. Participants will join more than 100 other young dancers at Juilliard’s Lincoln Center campus for this inaugural day, celebrating the joy of dance.

Representatives from Juilliard Dance and Juilliard K-12 Programs and Initiatives said they look forward to welcoming the next generation of dancers to campus. No audition is required and need-based financial aid is available. Some experience in ballet and contemporary is suggested but not required; students of all backgrounds are encouraged to participate.

In a positive and supportive environment, dancers will be grouped by age, and will get an insider’s perspective of what Juilliard Dance training is like. Dancers will hear from the Dance Division’s dean and director, Alicia Graf Mack, and participate in ballet, contemporary, hip-hop, and improvisation classes throughout the day. Parents are also invited to attend an info session to learn more about Juilliard’s dance program.

Applicants should register by Sept. 9. For a full schedule of the day’s events and to register, visit juilliard.edu/danceexperience.
Any questions should be directed to k12programs@juilliard.edu.

Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students.
